- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2024I have read several books like this trying to understand my place in the world and how I could make a difference. This is one of the better books I have read and he has made it simple enough for the average person to understand the concept.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2009I recently completed reading The Divine Matrix by Gregg Braden and found it very insightful and thought provoking. This book describes in a clear and compelling manner the fundamental structure of the universe and how it operates. The astounding implication regarding the nature of the universe and that it actually responds to us is almost unanimously accepted as fact within the scientific community. This review includes clips from the book interspersed with my own notes, observations and scriptures.
Science has discovered that matter at the subatomic level doesn't actually physically exist. The atom along with the electron are just energy fields and are not physical in nature. Furthermore, if we could see the universe in its entirety from a higher vantage point, the objects in our world appear as just a projection from another realm. This other realm is the original and is a deeper level and is more real than the physical.
The projection of the universe we observe is constantly changing and responding to our consciousness. Experiments in Quantum Physics show that just focusing our awareness on something for even an instance changes its properties while we are watching it. The act of observation is an act of creation. Although this is difficult to grasp, human beings actually participate in ongoing creation. In the unseen realm, our beliefs and emotions create the blueprint for our relationships, our successes and our failures, that is projected into the seen or physical realm. In a sense science has caught up with what the Bible has said from the beginning. The implications of being in a pliable world of our own making are vast and powerful. The way we see our role in the universe is altered as we realize that we can intentionally change our outcomes. This may sound incredible but is actually verified scientific fact. However, more importantly, it lines up completely with the laws of prayer and faith that are revealed in the scriptures.
II Corinthians 4:17,18 says that our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things that are seen, but at the things that are not seen: for the things that are seen are temporal; but the things that are not seen are eternal. We are told not to look at the seen (physical) things that are temporary and transitory but to "look" at the unseen things that are eternal and not subject to change. Paul is not talking about using our eyes to see. How can you look at something that is unseen, unless you are using some other faculty such as your mind or your imagination? As we intently observe those things in the spiritual realm that have yet to manifest in the physical realm an eternal substance is formed within us.
Modern science has discovered that our bodies undergo chemical changes as we experience love, compassion, forgiveness, hate, judgment and jealousy that this force extends beyond our bodies into the quantum world! We know from the scriptures that failing to walk in love effects the outcome of our prayers. Galations is very specific in telling us that faith works by love. Discoveries has shown that we are connected to everything in the universe and are not limited by space or time and that we can use that connection consciously as long as we see ourselves as part of the universe rather than separate from it. We are able to manifest through fervent faith in the physical realm what we imagine in the spiritual realm. After all, the energy field that connects all things also makes up all things. Experiments show that our consciousness has a direct effect on the most basic particles of creation and that we might live in a world actually created by consciousness and one that responds to us.
The key to moving our desire from the nonphysical imagination to the physical realm is to feel we already have them. The key is to put our focus on the completed act. As we observe and focus our attention on our desired outcome we are locking in that specific possibility into place. The principles of faith as laid out in the New Testament tell us that in order to receive what it is we are praying for we need to believe that we have already received it (Mark11:24).
Physics has determined that there is a nonphysical energy field (hence the divine matrix) that connects everything and everyone in the universe. In a sense it is the "stuff" that carries our prayers beyond our bodies and holds the world together. The Bible tells us that with wisdom God created the universe. The implication is that wisdom was the actual substance or building blocks that God used to create everything. I believe that this force is God Himself and that it manifests itself through love and faith. This force permeates everything in the universe and responds to love and faith. We activate this force as we walk in love. This begins to make sense as we realize that the scriptures tell us that faith is the substance of things hoped for.
The implication of these scientifically proven discoveries is staggering and not insignificant. This is not some new age belief but is scriptural truth lining up and harmonizing completely with the reality of the function and nature of our universe as it was designed by God. As we join ourselves with God's purposes, walking in love and in faith, we become co-creators of our own lives. Romans 5:17 says that "those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign (as kings) in life through the one man, Jesus Christ."
- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2024I continue to be amazed at the potential that exists for all. This book is a blueprint for an amazing life if we follow it. I am a huge Greg Braden fan and even bigger fan after reading this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2007This book was extremely tricky to review. I say this because at moments, I was frustrated by the author's lack of organization in his presentation while at other times, I was completely immersed in his epiphanic narrative like hearing really beautiful music. In my honest opinion, the author tried to incorporate too much information (for a book of only 200+ pages); so much so, that at times, reading it was like trying to untangle a jumbled set of earphones. Add in the "dumbing down" factor and this book can become quite unsatisfying for the quintessential reader.
The "Divine Matrix", as Braden calls it, is the container for our universe in its entirety. It is the medium that mirrors our consciousness on every level. It unfolds the reality that we choose to experience as a result of all the persistent beliefs that we hold. Holographically speaking, since everything in the universe, as we perceive it, is interconnected, changing one of our beliefs can change our reality in a most dramatic way. Braden goes on to explain Quantum Physics, Subatomic Entanglement, Holography, Neurology and other scientific concepts as best as he can with reader-friendly vocabulary and limited page space: The problem is, you never quite catch the gist of what he is trying to say before he moves on to the next topic (for example, there'll be some nebulously written paragraphs on a topic and "Voila!", The "awesome" conclusion appears disjointedly as the final sentence on the topic, requiring some serious leaps in logic). In a move that probably acknowledges his own foible, Braden inserts these gray blocks with simple sentences, or "keys", in each topic to serve as a neat if-you-don't-understand-my-drivel-just-remember-this-one-thing kind of trick for the reader. Yes, after reading books like "Holographic Universe" by Talbot or "The Field" by McTaggart, the science as presented in the "Divine Matrix" left me quite wanting.
However, this book was also wonderful in other ways that I did not anticipate. Braden's book shone with disctinction in it's latter half, like a singer finally overcoming her stage-fright. Perhaps once the drudgery of scientific explanations were finally done with, the author finally found his element. The emotional quality of his narrative was touching and the intuitiveness of his wisdom was refreshing. I am particularly referring to his sections on how the matrix acts as a mirror of our deepest fears and how we can communicate with it meaningfully to better ourselves. We learn about the three universal fears that "plague" the human condition and the five kinds of ways that the universe, courtesy of the matrix, may reflect our deepest beliefs through the situations and relationships we find ourselves in. The author sails through these topics flawlessly and gracefully, peppering them with personal stories that we can identify with. This is where my greatest learning occured. I also enjoyed the biblical (well, gnostic really), Buddhist, and other philosophical citations that he spreads throughout the book, proving decisively that the stereotypic term "new-age" is a most ironic misnomer for information that has been known for thousands of years.
Like I said, this book had me perched on a most wobbly fence. However, I realized that any book that makes me learn something new and significant can most certainly be forgiven for its shortcomings. I'd rather liken this book to a glass half full than half empty. If I felt the scientific bit was inadequate, I could always read other books to compensate for it. What can't be compensated however, is the grand finale which brings this book to a most poignant ending (roll curtain).
P.S. Definitely a book you want to keep in your collection.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2024I picked this book up on sale as it sounded interesting. I'm glad I did. I haven't been a spiritual person, but there are those things that seem to be unexplainable. As a person with a scientific mind, I felt this book bridged unexplainable things with reasons that sound legit without putting blind faith as the reason. There is still a leap of faith that needs to be grasped to believe in the book but I feel that it's got a good base to achieve that. I am hoping to try out the stuff in this book to be a better person, and live more positively. I highly recommend this book.
